Distance Learning Can Be A Good Choice

With the hectic schedule of today’s world and a seemingly endless list of responsibilities and obligations, many people are turning to distance learning to increase their education level.

There are several institutions that currently offer distance learning courses, and while quality will vary, advancing your education can never injured. There are lots of different types of distance learning courses that both traditional and non-traditional students use to fit education into their hectic lifestyle. The purpose of distance learning is to connect instructors and students across a huge distance, but the format and scheduling used can have a massive impact on the learning experience.

E learning courses are distance learning courses that are conducted on the web. One of the massive advantages of e learning courses is that they’re considered to be ‘open study’ courses. Open study means that you are responsible for getting on the web and finding the information and readings you need on your own time, instead of having to meet for class at a certain time or place.

Some distance learning courses require students to commute to a classroom on a nearby campus where they’ll receive instruction and lectures indirectly. The most common format is a classroom with a TV that is either connected to a live feed where the instructor resides, or a recorded lesson is played. Many towns and cities with mid to large colleges, will broadcast certain classes over public access channels so that students can receive lectures and class information from the comfort of their home. One advantage of broadcasting lessons over public access television is that with a VCR or Tivo, you can record the lesson and watch or rewatch the lesson when you’ve time or if you don’t understand a particular point. Having lessons recorded can be a valuable tool when studying for a test since you can watch the actual lecture again or review certain points.

Although distance learning has caught on and is heavily used by non-traditional students who have day jobs and a busy lifestyle, many high schools are taking advantage of distance learning as well. The reason behind this is because the school does not have to hire another teacher, therefore high schools can gain access to extremely skilled and knowledgeable teachers through distance learning courses. It can also grant high schools to offer specialized classes and develop high caliber programs that can delve deeply into a particular field. This is particularly useful for rural school districts that may have difficulty attracting and paying for the best teachers, but with distance learning classes, they have the ability to provide their students with instruction from the ideal available instructors.

The need for skilled labor and professionals is driving the demand for distance learning courses. However, many people can’t drop what they’re doing to go to college for even a semester or two. Distance learning, especially e learning courses, makes it possible for many people to earn degrees or certification.

Getting Admitted to College

Often times, the closer it gets to your SAT test date, the more anxious you become. While this is understandable, you need to be aware that college admissions look at more than just that score. About 35 to 50% of their decision is based on your high school records. They look to see how well you handled a rigorous workload, if your grades improved during high school and if you selected difficult courses. This often gives them an idea as to how well you would perform in your college studies, and if you would be an asset to their school.

They also claim that about 25 to 40% of their admissions decision is based on test scores. Both the ACT and SAT test are used to evaluate applicants, showing them how well you would handle problem solving, reading and other basic skills. This is one reason why SAT test preparation is vital if you want to do well and improve your SAT test score.

A SAT test score can provide the college with valuable information; however, they are also interested in you as a person. Anywhere from 5 to 20% of their decision may be influenced by community service and other activities, as well as the same amount for essays and recommendations. College admissions want to know what’s important to you. They’re interested in both your strengths and weaknesses and how they are prone to affect you in college life.

Taking SAT preparation classes and a few practice SATs tests improves your chance of getting a higher grade and that along with taking AP (advanced placement) courses shows the college admissions what you’re capable of and that you’re serious about furthering your education.
